Pump organ composition for the third section of Supple, a choreography by Silvita Diaz Brown, premiered at Links Hall.

Dance performers: Silvita Diaz Brown, Amanda Jasmina, Sam Goodman, and Lisa Frank.

Supple is a movement piece with contemporary dance elements, Tai-Chi, Yoga and text, navigating into the journey of becoming limber; starting in the physical body transcending to the mind with the idea to liberate the spirit. The movement images in this work are metaphors of attaining flexibility in life: braking chains and being open to the need for change. To become supple is to bend as needed without breaking apart!

To Gaze (Setting Course Version)

2010; sound composition for video

Sound piece for promotional video of On Look Films, a project documenting the Tawheed Al Adhan, or Adhan Unification Project in Cairo.

To Gaze is a song played on three reeded instruments. The tuning overlapping is reminiscent of urban sounds of Cairo and of the adhan (or call to prayer) as originally sung by individual voices. Although in musical discordance, the melodic journey binds a sympathetic intention.

Fathom

2008; electronic composition

Fathom is a 6-part organ accompaniment for a live 4-channel performance led by Lisa Abbatomarco; presented at Waveforms/Around The Coyote Festival and New Music at The Green Mill, curated by Julia Miller.

The piece originated as a sound installation in which 4 vocal sounds carefully rose from the bottom of 4 steel pipes set in the snow against a backdrop of industrial white noise. In live performance, “joined by organ and a fifth layer of improvised vocals, the piece surfaces the breath between the notes and the notes between the notes to find the fulcrum between fixed and vast.”

Fathom is an exploration of the word’s trifold definition “a unit of length equal to six feet; nautical”; “to measure the depths of by means of a sounding line”; and “to penetrate to the truth of”.
